Still Objects: Small Things That Hold a Room Together

A mirror, a plinth and a tray: why the smallest pieces often set the tone of an entire room.

Elin Marsh

Founder & Lead Designer

After two collections of tables, chairs and shelves, we noticed something. When people sent us photos of their homes, the pieces they talked about most were rarely the big ones.

It was the tray by the door. The mirror in the hall. The plinth holding a single stem in a vase. Small objects set the tone of a room far more than their size suggests. Collection 03, Still Objects, grew out of that.

The Oren Mirror

A simple round in a deep, hand-turned frame. It is designed to catch light rather than dominate a wall. Hang it low in a hallway, or lean it against the wall above a console for something more relaxed.

The Brant Pedestal

A plinth for the things you want to look at: a plant, a sculpture, a stack of books you are not ready to put away. It lifts an object just enough to give it presence, and turns an empty corner into a place the eye returns to.

The Noma Tray

Carved from a single block of walnut, the Noma is for gathering the small scatter of daily life. Keys, rings, letters, loose change. Everything in one place, so the rest of the surface can stay clear.

Stillness as a material

We have started to think of stillness almost as a material in its own right, something you can design with, like oak or stone.

A well-placed object slows the eye down. It gives a room a point of rest.

Try this: pick one surface in your home that always gathers clutter. Clear it completely. Then put back a single object you love, on a tray or a plinth, with space around it. Notice how differently the whole room feels.

Still Objects are made to be lived with for years. Noticed less and less as time goes on, and missed immediately if they were ever gone.
